Marissa is a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist in numerous states including MD, DC, FL, NC, and SC. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from University of Maryland and a Master’s from Nova Southeastern University, both in the field of Communication Sciences and Disorders. In addition, she has a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA).
Marissa has over 20 years of experience as a Speech-Language Pathologist. Her first 17 years, she worked in non-public education and private practice settings serving school-aged children with language, learning and literacy differences. Early in her career, she found a passion for helping pre-teens through young adults navigate their academic and community settings by modeling and teaching executive functioning and social language strategies. She became trained in reading programs, such as Phono-Graphix, Linda Mood-Bell’s Visualizing/Verbalizing, LIPS, and Seeing STARS, andWILSON Reading. She also embraced her leadership spirit, becoming a Speech and Language Program Director, and collaborated with Occupational, Physical, and Mental Health clinicians. During these years, she designed and implemented curriculum and operational procedures for Reading Intervention and Language-Rich Preschool programs.
Later, Marissa was the Clinical Operations Director for an Education Technology start-up business. This allowed her to leverage a broad background of communication and management expertise to merge digital technology with the world of public education. She established and maintained a dynamic team of SLP’s to provide telehealth treatment to elementary and middle school public school students all over the U.S. She partnered and problem solved with education representatives, IT developers, recruiters, and C-level organizers, analyzing data to improve operational processes for a growing company, while staying close to her communication roots of bringing quality care to children.
In addition, Marissa has supervised several SLPA’s, graduate clinicians, and Clinical Fellows. She has coached executives and employees in large companies across industries in areas including public speaking and pragmatic language. She has been an involved member of local and state organizations and special interest groups, as well as regularly attends continuing education to satisfy her love of learning.
Outside of work, Marissa enjoys spending time with her husband, 3 children, and their puppy, Sully. She loves taking walks in nature, traveling, researching real estate, and hopes to learn pickleball soon!
